Allenwood Celtic 3  vs  2 Newtown Rovers (Match Report)

Newtown with the wind advantage took the lead 20 minutes into the game when Shane Smullen was adjudged to have brought down a Newtown player in the box and the Newtown player put a very well taken penalty away.

Allenwood got one back when Stephen Skelly played a long ball over the top to his strike partner Shane Curran. Curran with a lot to do received the ball out at the corner flag turned his marker, floated a lobbed effort past the keeper from the edge of the box and into the far top corner. The sides went in level at the break, a goal a piece.

Newtown got off to a great start in the second half and took the lead again in the 55th minute when the ball dropped to a Rovers midfielder outside the box and he buried an excellent strike low and hard into the bottom corner of the net.

Allenwood's front man Skelly missed a few chances to level it before he set Paul O Loughlin off down the right wing with a perfectly timed through ball. O Loughlin raced onto it and found himself one on one with the Rovers keeper. He finished with a cool side footed shot past the advancing keeper. Allenwood drawing level for the 2nd time in the game.

Celtic bombarded the Rovers goal in search of a winner and got their just reward in the 75th minute. O Loughlin the provider this time with a quick throw to team captain Shane Curran who was quick on his feet to get to the early throw. He ran in and one on one with the keeper again, he finished with a low drive giving his side what proved to be the crucial winner.

Best for Allenwood were the Smullen cousins in the center of the defense, O Loughlin on the wing and man of the match Shane Curran with a truly inspirational team captains performance.
