Congratulations to the U12 team (2002 born) for winning the Clubs first League Championship since the underage reformation in 2008/09. This was a truly remarkable championship win as the team went unbeaten throughout the league and scored 117 goals in their 18 league games. 22 Players represented the team throughout the season, most of whom have been with the Club since the start so its fantastic that they now will have a KDUL League winners medal as a fitting reward for their hard work and commitment. The Club would also like to thank the teams Manager and Coaches and also the parents who have supported this group of players all season.
Training resumes for this group of players on Tuesday 24 June 2014 at 7pm and will run twice weekly on Tuesdays and on Saturdays at 11am until the season starts in September 2014. The squad needs more players as we hope to enter a team in the Major League and a team in the Major One League to develop players and give game time value for the cost of your registration.
Congratulations also to the following underage competitive teams:
U13s (2001 born) who finished an agonisingly close 3rd in their League. With a couple of new players next season this team will be the team to beat in their League.
U14s (2000 born) who played their football at a higher level than the previous season yet finished a very creditable 5th of 14 teams and with the benefit of a season at the higher level behind them and with the hopeful addition of 2 or 3 players to the squad over the summer, no doubt will feature at the top end of the League table next season.
U16s (1998 & 1999 born) -- perhaps our most important underage team at the moment as these lads will progress shortly and rejuvenate our senior mens team. The lads had a decent season in finishing 3rd in their League and getting to 2 cup semi finals. I understand that a summer of hard work is planned for them to turn them into League contenders next season. This is a team with huge potential and with a couple of good signings, they will do good things next season.
Best wishes to all managers, coaches and helpers for next season. Players parents will be contacted by text in the coming weeks regarding pre-season training which is due to start on 24 June 2014 for all competitive teams except the 2000 born players who have commitments with their GAA Club and school until 2nd week of July.
Perhaps our most important successes are at non competitive level and for this the Club sincerely thanks all coaches and helpers for the development work and the fun they introduce to the childrens sporting lives. We had our first ever U11 Girls team playing football and we hope to expand and develop this section into the future but we need parents to volunteer as helpers. We have big numbers of players at all ages from U8 to U11 and although the emphasis is on fun and fair play at this level, we can already see that when these players go competitive, they will be knocking on the door in all competitions they play in. The secret however is the help the children get and in each team we need 2/3 parents to look after the children. If you can help, let us know. We all started out as apprehensive parents but for the sake of the children we get involved, we meet new people, we have great craic and the odd difference of opinion but all for the good of the children. Training for Academy and non competitive teams resumes on Wednesday 18 June 2014 at 7pm.
Finally, our door is open to all new players and also open to all local children playing elsewhere who might want to consider playing for their home town club.
