Allenwood Celtic Ladies Senior Team Crowned League Champions

On a lovely night for football and in front of a well attended Allenwood Celtic ground, our Senior Ladies were presented with the League Championship Trophy after a fabulous win over their nearest rivals Mountmellick Ladies. Despite the absence through injury of a couple of key players for the past few weeks, the Ladies have steamrolled their way to the League Championship with 2 games to spare. Monday (19 August '13) night’s victory was built on a will to succeed. The Ladies showed absolutely no fear in their play even though the stakes were so high.  They showed unbelievable character and no little skill. The Ladies were dominant throughout and on top in all areas of the field. Their 2-1 winning margin does not reflect their superiority. Mountmellick Ladies scored from their only meaningful attempt whereas our ladies could have scored 5 or 6 but for 2 very good saves from the Mountmellick keeper and a couple of attempts that shaved the frame of the goal. Every single player did herself proud last night however Aishling Carroll was very assured and commanding in goal, Claire Ivers was excellent at right back, Karen Lyons was excellent in midfield and her dead ball prowess was as good as you will see anywhere. Lisa Moore and Debbie Casey were an absolute handful up front all night (well nearly all night in Debbie’s case:o))) but the star on show was undoubtedly Sinead Crowe. Sinead produced an all action, skilful and power packed display which resulted in her scoring 2 fine goals.

It was fantastic to see a number of children in attendance as they will have witnessed a team that they can look up to and hopefully the Ladies success will inspire these children. The occasion last night and the success the Ladies have achieved have given the club a massive boost. Well done Ladies.

In an emotive captain’s speech after the presentation of the Cup, Lisa Moore paid tribute to her teammates, many of whom are playing football for up to 9 years and who have now reached their goal as League Champions. That dedication is unmatchable and has now been paid its due reward. Lisa also paid special tribute to manager Jamie Lambe who has taken the Ladies to a new level this year. The Club would like to also pay tribute to Jamie and the ladies for producing a championship winning squad in its first year back in the KDFL Women’s League.

And there’s more............. The Ladies are also in the semi final of the Cup so the double is on for them. Let’s get behind them and cheer them on to the end of the season. Your support would be appreciated
